The Imperial First United Methodist Church and several of its members and constituents sponsor children through Compassion International. What is Compassion International? It is an organization whose mission is to release children from poverty in Jesus’ name. The organization is Christ-centered, church-based, and child-focused. “Through a holistic approach to child development, we carefully blend physical, social, economic and spiritual care together…in Jesus’ name.” Working through local churches in each country, Compassion International has helped thousands of children in twenty-five countries since its inception in 1952. They work primarily through child sponsorship.
The Imperial church sponsors children in Haiti and Mexico. People in our church family have sponsored children in Bangladesh, Kenya, Ethiopia, Nicaragua and Ecuador among others. We write to our sponsored children, remember their birthdays, and send holiday greetings. We also pray for them and the money, $35 per child, we send monthly helps provide for them, their families, and for their education They pray for us and write us letters in return.
