I See the Lamb or Is it the Shepherd?

Many of us have our favorite image of Christ. We must be careful not to allow our image impede the understanding and belief of someone else.

The Lamb or The Shepherd? Both!
  • When you think of Jesus what image comes to mind? Why?
  • Multiple images for Christ might be confusing to a newcomer. How can we make it easier to understand for them? Should we?
  • Christ calls us to believe in him and become one of His sheep. What does that mean to you?

Where Do I Go Now?

We all feel lost sometimes. How is it that you handle those times? Do you go fishing? Do you sit around the house brooding? Do you open yourself up to God’s love and express your love for Jesus Christ?

  • When was the last time you felt lost unable to determine where you should move next?
  • Have you ever heard God’s voice or felt a nudging that you were sure came from God? How did you respond?
  • Do you agree with John that it all begins with love?

Easter 2019

The Easter message for 2019. Hear Jesus calling you. See Him standing there just outside your heart saying your name.

Happy Easter everyone!
  • How did Jesus fulfill the Isaiah scripture read?
  • Is Jesus the focus of your Easter or has He been replaced with something else?
  • Do you hear Jesus calling your name? Can you see Him there just outside your heart calling to you?

Focused On Jesus

If we truly see Jesus and focus on Him we will serve Him and only Him.

What does it mean to truly see Jesus?
  1. What would it mean to this our communities and our world if we who say we follow Jesus truly focused on Him?
  2. Do you agree that focusing on Jesus and truly seeing Him means that we serve Him and only Him?
  3. How can you better serve Jesus Christ today?

New Beginnings

During this season of Lent we have talked about returning to God and repenting to God. This can and should lead to new beginnings for us and a new way to lead our lives; for our actions should follow from our beliefs.

  • Can you remember a time when a parent went out of their way to do something for you? Tell someone about it.
  • Have you ever shared your new beginning in Christ with someone? Must it be an “aha” moment in your life or can it be something different and more gradual?
  • What does it mean to you to be an ambassador for Christ? Is this still a good metaphor or do we need something else to compare it to?

A Case For Repentance

It’s not so much that we wish to avoid judgement as it is we pray to hear the judge say, “Not guilty.”

Luke 13:1-9
  1. Do you believe that you will face judgement one day?
  2. Do you believe in a loving and compassionate God? If you do, how do you deal with Jesus’ teaching on coming judgement?
  3. What do you think of Paul’s argument that sin entered the world with Adam’s fall in Genesis? Is this fair?

Fathoming Our Father

The story of the Prodigal Son is a popular one. Does it help you understand God? What about the creative and maternal aspects of God?

Message on the Prodigal Son
  1. Jesus talked about God as “Father”. The church often does as well but what are some of the maternal aspects of God?
  2. Which brother do you more readily identify with? Are you more like the older brother who remained faithful? Or are you more like the younger brother who had to hit bottom before returning home?
  3. Is the image of an indulgent father figure helpful for you when you think about God? What other images of God help you in your understanding of the divine?

Open Arms

This sermon explores the story of the woman who wept and wiped Jesus’ feet with her hair. Topics involved include: grace and forgiveness.

Sermon February 24, 2019
  1. Do you believe that God’s grace and forgiveness come first or do you believe it is the other way around? Some other way?
  2. How welcome are those “other” people in your church and community?
  3. It has been suggested that this sermon should have ended with an altar call. Do you agree?
